Explore the Art of Japanese Bookbinding: Our Factory Featured in the Video Series ‘Stories of Japan’

Our Factory Featured on the YouTube Channel “Stories of Japan”

Our factory was recently featured on the YouTube channel “Stories of Japan,” which highlights traditional Japanese craftsmanship.

The team thoroughly documented the manufacturing process of our notebooks and our marbling work, turning it into a cool, engaging video.

Each notebook is carefully bound by hand, using brushes to seamlessly attach the cover to the pages in one smooth, efficient motion. This traditional method not only makes the notebooks durable but also ensures they open with ease.

Marbling, a beautiful and ancient technique once used in ledger bookbinding to prevent forgery, is now a rare craft. While few bookbinding companies still practice marbling, at Watanabe Bookbinding, two of our craftsmen have taken on the challenge since 2022.

The video director captured every detail, even filming from behind the machines and from low angles, showing a deep dedication to their craft that matches the craftsmanship we put into our work.

Don’t miss the two videos: Factory Tour and Interview!

If you love traditional Japanese craftsmanship, be sure to check out both videos for a behind-the-scenes look at our factory and an interview with our president.

The video has received comments such as “Super cool!!,” “Very relaxing to watch,” and “I love Japan and the culture, the people, and everything about Japan is beautiful.” Knowing that people around the world are interested in Japanese culture motivates us and brings us great joy.
